Signs in the City promotes languages through a city’s culture. The concept is based on the use of photography of a city’s signs as means to learn about the city’s language and culture. This involves taking pictures of street signs, graffiti, writings in restaurants and bars, information on buildings and heritage places and famous and important incidents and people. The photos of the signs are part of a linguistic and cultural guide books that teach the language and a bit of the culture of the cities to its visitors and newcomers. Films on aspects of daily life accompany the books.
Signs in the city initiative has been implemented already in eleven cities around Europe. Four new cities are on the way.
