Polish female names end with the vowel ‘a' e.g. Ewa, Maria, Katarzyna, Monika.

Polish male names usually end with a consonant, e.g. Piotr, Marek, Adam, Stanisław.

Polish surnames

The form of Polish surnames depends on their etymology. The most popular surnames end with ‘-ski' (male form, e.g. pan Kowalski - Mr Kowalski), ‘-ska' (female form, e.g. pani Kowalska - Mrs Kowalski). The second largest group of surnames are those ending with ‘-ewicz", ‘-owicz', e.g. Markiewicz, Pawłowicz (both male and female forms).
