Pomnik ObroÅ„ców Poczty Polskiej Monument of Polish Post -Office Defenders |
The Polish Post-Office in Gdańsk (Poczta Polska) has a heroic history dating back to the beginning of WWII. Like many other Polish institutions, it was brutally attacked by the Nazi forces on 1 September 1939. Poczta Polska was heroically defended by all of its employees: postmen, couriers and office workers, who were ordinary civilians fighting against aggression but also defending the honor of the institution whose uniforms they wore.
Today The Monument of the Polish Post Office Defenders (Pomnik ObroÅ„ców Poczty Polskiej) and the museum commemorate all those who died during the heroic defence in 1939.
