FEEL THE CITY

Bursztyn (amber) formerly called ‘jantar' is the real gold of the Baltic Sea. The mineral found near GdaÅ„sk is considered to be one of the most beautiful and precious in the world. Amber has always been present in GdaÅ„sk's life and culture. In ancient times the city lay on the amber trade route, called the Amber Route (Szlak Bursztynowy) which led from southern Europe and Asia to the Baltic coast.

The city has always been famous for its amber jewellery, and the masterpieces of amber work made by GdaÅ„sk craftsmen have been famous, throughout the whole of Europe for centuries. Rightfully so, our city is sometimes called ‘the capital of European amber'.

Walking down the streets of the Old Town you will find a lot of little jewellery shops selling stunningly beautiful items from little amber earrings to big amber models of ships.

Amber is not only beautiful and very decorative, but also has therapeutic properties.
