Politechnika Gdańska Gdańsk Technical University

One of the biggest Gdańsk libraries was founded in the 17^th century by a wealthy patrician Zachariasz Zappio. The library was remarkably big and housed about 6 000 volumes.

Unfortunately most of Zappio's library was badly damaged during War World II. The books which survived are now a part of the collection of old books in the Gdańsk Library.

 

Gdańsk is a strong academic centre, boasting the world famous Gdańsk Technical University (Politechnika Gdańska), University of Gdańsk (Uniwersytet Gdański), Academy of Fine Arts (Akademia Sztuk Pięknych), Academy of Music (Akademia Muzyczna), Medical University (Akademia Medyczna), Physical Education Academy (Wyższa Szkoła Wychowanie Fizycznego) as well as many public and private colleges.
