Turkey is an Islamic country which is tolerant of other religious denominations too. The Moslems worship in a mosque “cami” which is managed by an “imam” and there is a call to prayer“namaza çaÄŸrı  five times a day. They fast during the holy month of Ramadan “Ramazan” which corresponds to a different 28 day period every year according to the Islamic calendar.
There are Jews and Christians who also live in Izmir. There are two synagogues and
various churches; along with several cemeteries for each religion.
