Izmir (Turkey)

FEEL THE CITY

Asansör means lift/elevator and is a building that was built to provide access from the lower road in KarataÅŸ to the higher areas on the hill. It was built in 1907 as a work of public service commissioned by a Jewish banker and trader, Nesim Levi BayraklıoÄŸlu. Today it continues to provide access while also enabling visitors to view the lovely panoramas from the main tower, and enjoy the restaurant/café facilities run by the municipality.
Dario Moreno was a beloved symbol of the diversity of Izmir. He was a Turkish Jew who was a guitarist, pianist, actor and later a singer in Paris. The Izmir Municpality chose to name the street in his honor to commemorate the multicultural ethnic colors of the city.
