Miercurea Ciuc (Romania)

FEEL THE CITY

Like all ethnic minorities, Hungarians of Romania consider it important to preserve their culture and traditions which are quite distinct from the culture of the majority population. Whenever you come to Csíkszereda, you can easily come across a traditional music and dance festival or a fair of traditional local products. Music played on violin and doublebass, whirling colourful skirts, rhythm beat out on strong boots – all melted up into an impressive atmosphere of what “székely” means.

So-called “táncház“ (dance houses) are organised every Wednesday in the Community Cultural Center and the local folk ensemble (Hargita Nemzeti Székely Népi Együttes - Hargita National Szekler Folkensemble from Csíkszereda) shows high quality dance performances in the local theatre.
