As a result of the bombing, Rotterdam has a new city centre. Only a few buildings remind of the pre-war past. The Laurenskerk, for example, is the only existing building from the Middle Ages. Another monumental building is the White House on the Oude Haven. This Art Nouveau tower, built at the end of the 19th century, was the tallest building in Europe for some time. It was Rotterdam’s first skyscraper.

Rotterdam has a lot to offer in the field of modern architecture. One of the first post-war monuments is the Euromast. This watch tower of 185 meters, with a restaurant at the top, was built in 1960. Of a slightly later period are the cube houses. They have been a major tourist attraction since the 1980s. There is also a viewing cube. Here you can experience how it is to live in such a house. Since the 1990s there has been a massive growth of residential and working towers in the city center. For decades Rotterdam has the highest tower in the Netherlands. The Maastoren is currently the highest at 165 meters, but with the construction of the Zalmhaven Tower, that spot will soon be taken.
